Updating Your Teen's Room

The little princess twin bed might have been perfect for your ten-year old daughter but now that princess has become a teenager of fifteen, she wants a new look for her bedroom, and the good news is that it can be done without breaking the bank.

You'll want to update her bed. Give her something unique such as an Eden Isle Iron Bed with its fun twisting wrought iron vines with leaves that make up the headboard and footboard. Next, ditch the Polly Pocket bedspread and get her a bedding set that is fit for a teenager. Bold colors or pretty pastels that don't look babyish will strike a pleasing chord with most teens. The most important part is to let her pick it out. She will want some independence in choosing her surroundings, let her have it.

Next, change the curtains. It's time to give her something a little more mature in the window treatment department such as floor length curtains and skip the frills. Go for colors that will meld with her room.

Other additions teenagers usually ask for are televisions. If you choose to put a television in her room, agree on viewing times and set limits. Ditto for video games. Make sure she knows homework and household chores need to be taken care of before video games are played.

You can add a lot to a bedroom by simply adding an area rug. Take a color that is low-key in the room and play it up, you'll find it is an easy way to change the entire mood of a room, from drab to dazzling.

Your little girl is growing up. Update her bedroom and include her in the choices. You will most likely see your little princess that kept a messy room turn into a young lady who is proud of the room she designed and it will stay much neater as a result!
