Types of Curtain Rods
There are many different types of curtain rods and how you use them for your window treatments can color the mood of your entire decor.
The most well-known type of curtain rod is the old fashioned spring rod which simply attaches in the window area using spring tension to stay in place. They are simple affair and do not require any special hardware to hang. They can't hold a lot of weight but if you have a lightweight curtain arrangement in mind or simple cafe type curtains, they will be perfectly fine to use in your decorating scheme.
Magnetic rods are a little more decorative than standard spring rod. Much like spring rods, they require no special hardware and since they use a magnet to stay in place rather than spring tension, they may only be used on a metal window sill.
Sash-rods are another type of curtain rod. They are thinner and more decorative than the other two types of rods. They are intended to be seen and are usually placed just above the window. They are usually rather plain in design except they usually have decorative end caps on each end of the rod.
Another option in curtain rods is a highly decorative scroll rod that is meant to be part of your decor. A good example of this is the wrought iron scroll worked
Elegant Curtain Rod that is a scrolled masterpiece in metal. Much like a sash rod this curtain rod was meant to be seen and it's design will add to the overall feel of your room.
No matter which curtain rod you choose, window treatments will bring the whole of your decor together and whether you want to keep it low-key and use a simple spring rod or use a decorative rod to give your interior design a stamp that says it is uniquely "you", there are no wrong choices, just your personal preferences.

Using Greens in Your Decorating Scheme
We often talk about color and it can be one of the most important underlying factors that creates the mood for your room. If you use soft relaxing colors in cool shades such as found in the green and blue families, you can add a lowkey touch to your room. The use of color to heal physical and mental distresses is called chromotherapy and it dates back to both the ancient Chinese and Egyptians who practiced the art of color healing extensively.
The color has the most effect on people in the cool tones is thought to be green. The color that is thought to have the most influence over people's moods in the warm spectrum is red, which coincidentally is the opposite of green on the color scale. Experts in many fields interior designers, psychologists, experts in feng shui and even people in the advertising industry agree that green is a color that makes people feel calm and balanced. No one is quite certain why, tests to determine if green affects our brain chemistry, cultural meanings, or it's just a fluke, have yet to be fully proven. However, recent studies have shown that when exposed to green colored paper or placed in a green room, a person's heart rate drops, blood pressure lowers, and muscles relax, while hot colors like red or orange cause these values to rise. Even some prisons use green in the cells and report a lower incidence of aggression among inmates.
If the thought of a room dominated by the color green seems overwhelming to you. Make some soothing additions to your decor by using greens in all their glory in various accent pieces. You can have predominately green window treatments, green pillows and even an accent piece like a
green candle stand. All will add to the feel of your room and bring the cool calmness that comes with the color green.
