Have you visited Iron Accents recently? You might have noticed the new calligraphy drawn directly on the building in large black letters over the door, as well as the sides of the brick and stucco building. Charlie Stubbs, a local artist turned sign-painter, created the original lettering for Iron Accents on April 22. Mr. Stubbs is a natural choice having worked professionally on numerous architectural projects. His past work includes artistic renderings of Château Élan, the winery located thirty-minutes north of Atlanta. He sketched the winery before construction began from the architectural blueprints. His drawing stood on the lot as Château Élan was constructed. For years, he was well-known throughout Georgia in the commercial construction trade for his creative flair and warm sense of humor. Back in the 1980s, he painted the walls inside Egleston Children's Hospital in Atlanta with bright colors and warm scenes. He moved to national recognition when he entered a national sign-painting contest winning Third Place. He created a mural on a fence by super-sizing a collection of children's drawings. His work was published in the trade magazine Signs of the Times. These days, Mr. Stubbs lives a quieter life in north Georgia. ![]() Standing on a ladder, Mr. Stubbs (85) painted the final touches on his work for Iron Accents. We are fortunate in north Georgia. Mr. Stubbs offers his sign-painting services to local businesses and organizations. You may contact him at 706-982-5228. You will receive more than an original artistic sign; you will meet an interesting new friend. by: Iron Accents |
